Everyone is Freaking Out About Swine Flu

I was at Peet's Coffee today. Peet's is like the San Francisco version of Starbucks. Same same but different.

I was surfing the Internet, drinking some coffee. The guy behind me was talking about his Mexico vacation. He mentioned something about Swine Flu.

I heard the words Swine Flu and Mexico in the same sentence and I bolted out of that coffee shop quicker than the Flash.

I'm not normally a germaphobe, but I'm not going out like that. A pigs a filthy animal... bacon is good but swine flu's not.

Is the media just making too big a deal about the Swine flu... or are we really in trouble? Only time will tell. I just remember SARS. Everyone was freaking out about that too. I was even in South East Asia when that was going down. I'm fine...

Plus like if it's the end of the world... where are the zombies? Swine Flu is one thing... but I mean if there are going to be zombies coming out of the wood work.. that would really be something. That's News!

It's all Yellow Journalism to me, meaning it's piss poor. The real flu kills 36,000 people in the US every year.... 36,000. There are only just over 100 cases of Swine Flu world wide.

It doesn't make riding a crowded bus or subway any more enjoyable in the meantime.

What do you think about Swine Flu? Has it made you change your routine? Are you one of the people I saw making a run on the hand sanitizer in Walgreens. I'm not immune to the hysteria, I ran out of a coffee shop at 100 miles an hour...

Definately overblown in the media...but one of my co-workers is a probably H1N1 case (and I work in a really small office). Still waiting on her test results.

I've been more careful with handwashing at work and using hand sanitizer a lot. When a customer looked feverish and coughed the other day I sanitized the stylus for the payment touch pad after she left. I didn't want whatever she had to get caught by the next poor customer or me.
